The first two weeks advice:
http://www.teach-nology.com/ideas/start_year/
The first two weeks of a school year is chaotic, at times, a weighs a great deal on teachers and students alike. Here are a number of things you can do to make your year start off right:
1. Talk to your friends and family - Make sure that they are aware that you will be very busy during this time.
2. Don't Panic, Plan-it - If you plan well, every thing should fall into place. Just make sure your plans cover all variables.
3. Create a Checklist - Write down everything you need to do to have a successful first time weeks. Work your way down the list.
4. Get Your Room/Space Ready to go! - Do this days before students come in.
5. Self Reflect - Ask yourself "Are the kids going to like this lesson." Make revisions until you find a format that is both educational and engaging.
That's it for today class. Gotta run and do my real homework since I have not graduated yet :P

Character Trait Spotlight
One way to build up character according to this :
http://www.ilovethatteachingidea.com/ideas/010424_character_trait_spotlight.htm
what i think I would do is just maybe every week or two weeks or so I will tell them what are examples of good behavior and give compliments when they do them. So hopefully, they will keep doing them and instill good behaviors in themselves.
For example:
Opening doors
Greeting teachers,
Dont say anything if you nothing to say
things like that :)
Sincerely,
Cikgu Azlina

How to get to know more of my students
Ideas:
1.Start of class: give out questionares like favorite food, favorite drink, favorite color
2.Brown bag it :
according to -http://www.ilovethatteachingidea.com/ideas/020911_brown_bag_)it.htm
allowing students bringing 5 items that represent themselves.
My 5 items might be.. hurm.. i might have to think this thoroughly so I wont be teaching bad values to them.. :P

Sign language idea!
So i read this idea of teaching sign language to students! What better idea for someone who graduated from RIT!
Though, its kinda sad that a month before my graduation, the only thing i know is the alphabets -_-"
oh well, now i have reason to study sign language during work hours like yes, no, bathroom, stop, thank you and some basic words i can use for my class. Then i can communicate with my students secretly and at the same time enforcing a quite environment that enforce learning in my class! Hopefully they will love this idea!

Controlling their behaviours
So this is a good video about how to react to students that are compulsive talkers:
http://www.teach-nology.com/ideas/behavior/talkers.html
Having talkers in class will be one of the biggest challenges I will face as this will lower my confidence and credibility as a good teacher. I've read soem of the current fellows are facing this problem and are getting quite frustrated. Hopefully, I can manage this problem well in class and able to avoid this.
Right now I'm thinking of ideas that could make the class fun and at the same time, reinforce good behavior.
Hurm..
Maybe I could start the class with everyone having 10 stars.
and for every excellent student for the end of the day, they will receive a star
and for every not-so-good student, they will have to surrender a star
and I could make a list of what will be the reward/penalty according how many star they have.
something like this :
0 star - a visit to parents house
3 stars -
5 stars -
13 stars -
15 stars - allowed to choose a superhero name and being called that for a day (an idea for a current fellow from TFM blog)
Maybe this is too elementary. Im not so sure. I will not know until I get to know my students. We will see :)
But on top of personal achievements, i should make and achievement for the class as a whole so that they will keep remind each other to be good! This will be awesome! Then, i can have some students on my side by helping me to reach the ultimate goal of having a conducive class! Awesome! What should i do?
Homework game
Randomly choose a student, and then this student then chooses who answers each question throughout the review. He/She can not choose the same person twice throughout the review. Which usually means, that each student has to answer one question. As a class they are allowed to get three wrong. If they get four wrong (as a class), they don't get the prize. Prize could be 5 points for homework.
I wish my teachers were a bit cooler rather than one had thrown my book across the class because I did not do my homework.. From that she made me hates school so much. Sigh..
For the love of my kids, sincerely,
Cikgu Azlina

The beginning
So I found out I will be part of the Teach for Malaysia 2013 cohort earlier this week, yipeee!
However, I know this is actually a serious matter. I'm doing this for a good cause and I want to make a difference.
The children I will be working with are children in high-need regions in Malaysia and this will not be an easy task. I've been reading a lot of the experience and challenges faced by the current TFM fellows and I'm nervous if I can do this or not.
So, for now, I'm looking up for ideas online of children behavioral management and also tips to teach (i'm most probably be teaching science)
Some of the websites that are helpful :

My other concern of taking up this job is my responsibility to my future husband to whom I will be marrying in July.
This job entitles me to go to a two month training living in the institute from end of october to december which means I will be away from my husband just a few months into our marriage. My current fiance has been supportive and proud that i got this job while both of my parents are skeptical of my decisions. I can't even express how much I love you, Nouri for being there for me and know how important this is for me.
I will try my best as a teacher and as a guide for these children and I will try my best to be the wife I should be for my husband. This two years will be tough, but I'm ready for it and I will try my hardest to make this work.
This is, my journey as a teacher ( and a wife ^_^ )
